Some of you might have already realised this, as your interactions with this new technology have increased.
It was brought home to me forcibly last night when I wanted information on an organisation called Voice of Wales, who were taking part in an episode of the Lotus Eaters podcast.
I did the mandatory search, and discovered that according to the BBC, and the notorious left wing outfit Hope Not Hate, Voice of Wales was ‘right wing’ and ‘anti-immigration’ and involved in crime, etc etc – the usual left wing tropes and defamation.
Turns out Voice of Wales are normal patriotic Welsh people, trying to guard their country and culture.
I wasn’t having it and told it so, that this analysis was shockingly partisan and to try again. It then apologised and gave me a more neutral answer, but it made me realise that without people pushing back, they would be presented with an ideologically left, skewed viewpoint as the standard response.
Someone has noted that before 2019 you did not encounter AI between you and sources, but now it is not possible, to my knowledge, to bypass AI in looking for information.
Possibly the source of the problem is Google – who can forget the early iteration of Gemini, when it refused to produce images of historical figures as white people, so we discovered that Vikings were black, and members of the Third Reich were Asian.
An early source of information on the web was of course Wikipedia, but those of us on the political right soon discovered that outside of general information, with anything political you would have to contend with the opinions of, probably, fat queer ideologues or purple haired demons with nose rings, or somesuch.
Even users on X have started noticing that Grok seems to stick to the party line on certain subjects.
I read that Anthropic will be training its AI to push back against users.
So the question is why is there this seeming ideological conformity across all of the current AI models?
To find the answer to this, other than asking my wife or another human, who might not have the answer, I would have to ask AI, which for obvious reasons I have decided to not do, for this article.
