Violent student riots in France continue

PARIS — Spreading lawlessness disguised as student activism has pushed France into a state of heightened insecurity, forcing the closure of over 400 schools nationwide on Friday. What began under the guise of grievances over classroom conditions has rapidly mutated into coordinated “urban violence,” according to official government assessments. Security experts and right-wing political figures warn that the unrest is being deliberately stoked by radical far-left agitators to destabilise the Republic. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Radical Left Accused of Engineering Chaos

Information emerging from a government crisis cabinet meeting convened by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu reveals that French intelligence agencies have explicitly identified the hard-left party La France Insoumise (LFI) and its proxies as the coordinators behind the escalating riots. [1]

Conservative and right-wing leaders, including National Rally figures, have fiercely condemned LFI lawmakers and local left-wing mayors who have been spotted at blockade sites, effectively legitimising the chaos. Right-wing commentators argue that the far-left is using impressionable youth as political foot soldiers ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

Frontline Officers and Educators Under Siege

The scale of the violence highlights a severe threat to public order and the safety of those enforcing the rule of law:

  • Attacks on Security Forces: Over 305 law enforcement officers have been injured in the line of duty. Rioters have targeted police with stones, paving blocks, and lethal firework mortars, with intelligence reports noting at least seven separate incidents of acid being thrown at officers.
  • Schools Set Ablaze: Radical groups have turned educational institutions into flashpoints, setting fire to school entrances in cities such as Nantes and Rouen.
  • Assaults on Staff: At least 40 headteachers and school administrators have been injured or harassed while trying to maintain order and protect their campuses.

Demand for Absolute Firmness

With the country’s security forces overextended and nearly 2 000 individuals arrested, conservative voices are demanding an end to the state’s perceived hesitancy. The political right contends that the crisis cannot be resolved by pandering to rioters or tolerating the weaponisation of public spaces. They are calling for immediate, uncompromising judicial punishment for criminal vandals, an outright ban on radical political interference in schools, and total backing for the police forces working to restore sovereign order.
